January 2016 Newsletter

The next Social Meeting is January 25th. This meeting will be a Show and Tell. Members are encouraged to bring their most unusual or rare firearm to show around and tell us a story if you have one. At this meeting it is anticipated that Ed Tompkins, son of member Bill Tompkins, will be present to showcase samples of the bullets that he makes.

The next Business Meeting is February 8th. Nominations for Directors will continue at the February 8th meeting and elections will be held after nominations are closed. The following three Directors are concluding their two year term; Dean Councilor, Ted Hentschel and John King. Nominees at the January meeting were Dean Councilor, Ted Hentschel and Rob King. Additional nominees will be accepted at the February meeting. Any member in good standing may be nominated. You must be present to accept the nomination and / or cast your vote.

The 2016 KSC Membership Renewals now total 225. Any additional renewals between now and February 14th will incur a $10.00 late fee. If your renewal isn’t received by February 14th you will viewed as abandoning your membership and will have to appeal to the KSC Board for reinstatement. The member ship cap is still at 275 so it appears that we may have more new members than usual.

Hunters Education – The 2016 spring class will be held on Saturday, April 30th and Sunday May 1st. This class always fills quickly so don’t hesitate to call now to reserve your spot. Call Leisa or Dennis at 231-947-7235 to reserve your spot.

Reserved/dedicated range Activities. The following reserved activities have first right ttedo the use of the range at the designated days/times. If you are at the range at the same time you will need to adjust your activities to accommodate their needs. Club members and the public are welcome to participate in these activities.

Pistol Shooters, every Sunday from noon until 3:00 pm.

Firearms for Sale

#146 – Smith & Wesson Pistol, 38 special, model 36 in mint condition, $550.

#147 – Marlin 336C 30-30 Lever Action, blued, 20″ barrel length, hammer block safety, 6 round tubular magazine, checkered walnut stock and owner’s manual. Like new, shot less than 50 times. $400.00

If you are interested in either please send a reply email with your name and phone number and the number of the piece that you are interested in. Then the week after the newsletter is sent I will forward the replies in the order received to the individual who has the firearm for sale. This way, the owner of the firearm doesn’t have to worry about publicizing their name and phone number for everyone to see and they can decide who to contact in regards to a possible sale.

If you have any firearms that you would like to sell send a return email with the information on what it is (brand, model, caliber, finish, barrel length, optics, etc.) and I will include it in the next newsletter.

Gun Control – Unless you have been on an Artic Expedition for the last month you have certainly heard about President Obama’s recent speech on gun control and his subsequent Executive Order which expanded background checks. Attached is The Shooting Wires opinion of the events. The Executive Order has at least fueled the rise in gun manufactures stock prices, bringing a windfall in profits to those so invested.

January 23rd, March 19th, May 14th, July 9th, September 24th and October 29th are the 2016 dates for the CCW Classes conducted by Ted Hentschel and Dave Wessel, owner of Great Guns in Acme. The class costs $150.00 and starts at 8:00 am and concludes at 5:30 pm. To reserve your spot please call Ted at 231-313-0720.
