May 2018 Newsletter

The Social Meeting of May 28 is cancelled due to the Memorial Day Holiday. The next Business Meeting will be June 11th.

Thanks are extended to all who helped at the April 14th KSC Gun Show. The late spring snow storm put a real dent in our attendance as the paid admissions were down approximately 60%.

May 19 is the date for the KSC Spring Work Bee with the fun beginning at 8:00 am.  A list of projects to be done was previously emailed to all. Bring your gloves, hammer, screw guns, razor knife, rake, leaf blower, circular saw, enthusiasm and anything else you think would be useful as well as your appetite with lunch will be served. The Grand Traverse Archers will also be constructing their 3D archery range so anyone who enjoys archery so make an effort to attend the work bee. If anyone has a 3 point hitch post hole digger that could be loaned out for the day please contact Dennis Waineo @ 231-342-3703.

KSC member and instructor David Schliesman will be offering a certified NRA Basic Pistol course on June 23 and a Pistol Instructors course on June 24. This package is offer to Club members for $225. Students must register and deposit $100.00 by May 28th. Please call 231-882-4673 to register.

The Grand Traverse Archers are moving forward with their plans as they transition to become part of the KSC. Here is the some of the latest news from them.

Things are moving forward with our move to the Kingsley Sportsman’s Club

Saturday April 28th we moved all 3-D targets, archery bales and misc. archery equipment to our new home @ the Kingsley Sportsman’s Club. (7 helpers to load semi up Friday night, 9 helpers to help unload Saturday morning), When we were done Saturday we walked the new range for the 3-D course. Thanks to Gary Parrish and Consolidated Freight for the use of the truck, to all that helped in the move so far.

Friday May 4th we went through 3-D targets. We have 17 good targets, and 7 that need mid sections, others need complete replacing.

Saturday May 5th we moved a storage shed to Kingsley (thanks to the Sullivan’s and Youker’s).

Wednesday May 9th @ 7 pm we would like to have an archery meeting at the shooting range @ Kingsley Sportsman’s Club.

Interested in a new shooting adventure. Saturday, June 9 is the inaugural “Shuffle N Shoot” with 22 pistols and rifle. The shoot will consist of 2 stages: an extended Steel Challenge Stage and a unique 3 Gun Challenge! Volunteers are needed for the Shoot, please contact Scott Johnson at 632-2224 or shj1227@gmail.com. The Adams Fly Festival runs from noon until 8:00 pm on Saturday, June 2nd. The KSC will once again have their popular BB Shoot Booth and we need some volunteers to help set up, assist with the shoot and the tear down of the booth. Please contact Dean to help volunteer (231-632-0968). See the attached flyer form additional information.

Mark your Calendars for the July 21 & 22 Kingsley Heritage Days as the KSC will once again be sponsoring the BB Shoot on Saturday and the Turkey Shoot on Sunday.

Range Hours: The Spring / Summer range hours began April 1st and end September 30th. Hours are as follows: Weekdays 9:00am – 9:00pm / Saturday 10:00am – 7:00pm / Sunday 12:00 noon – 6:00pm.

Reserved/Dedicated Range Activities. The following reserved activities have first right to the use of the range at the designated days/times. If you are at the range at the same time you will need to adjust your activities to accommodate their needs. Club members and the public are welcome to participate in these activities.

 Spring Work Bee, Saturday, May 19, 8:00 am till done.

Well Armed Women, Wednesday evenings beginning at 6:30 pm on May 16, June 20, July 18, August 15 & September 19.

Shuffle N Shoot, Saturday, June 9, Noon till ??

Pistol Shooters, every Sunday from noon until 3:00 pm. The first Sunday of the month is CCW day and the last Sunday of the month is .22 day. Sundays in between, shoot what you bring.

4H Shooters, 5:30 – 8:00 PM every Tuesday night.

.22 Silhouette Shooters, every Thursday night from 6:00-8:00 pm. This event is open to all and features off hand shooting at 25, 50, 75 and 100 yard targets. The CPL pistol range will be available during the 22 Shoot.

July 28th, August 25, September 29th and October 20th are the 2018 dates for the CCW Classes conducted by Ted Hentschel and Dave Wessel, owner of Great Guns in Acme. The class costs $150.00 and starts at 8:00 am and concludes at 5:30 pm. To reserve your spot please call Ted at 231-313-0720.
